Written by Destiny Fletcher-Dwyer, LESSONS LEARNED is a One Act play about the strong bonds that runs through the blood of the Gibbs family. It is late January 1995, and 12-year-old Firestorm Gibbs’ Social Studies homework is to write an essay in celebration of Black History Month. The essay is to include detailed struggles, and triumphs of an African American of his choice. The individual selected must have contributed to society in a significant manner.
Firestorm is torn between MJ (Michael Jordan), the other MJ (Michael Jackson), or the third MJ (Magic Johnson). He turns to his mother for a suggestion and what ensues is the rich history of his own family. Firestorm is surprised, excited, and intrigued at what he learns. It is knowledge that changes not just the direction of his essay but his entire outlook on life!
